Are Bioidencal Hormones Censored In the UK

"All truth passes through three stages: First it is ridiculed, Second it is violently opposed, Third it is accepted as being self-evident." Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher, (1788-1860)

" Great thinkers have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds" ~ Albert Einstein

Albert quote above hits a raw nerve with alternative, complementary therapists and healers, so nothing new there, that fact is age old and will never change. We're always going to be decided into two camps, whither we are talking about bioidentical hormones, alternative or complementary therapies; and as one physicist, who requested anonymity stated, "New ideas are always criticized - not because an idea lacks merit, but because it might turn out to be workable, which would threaten the reputations of many people whose opinions conflict with it. Some people may even lose their jobs."

Bioidentical hormones fall into the alternative health category and therefore they won't receive much medical, media or airplay, so many people have no idea over here in the UK, or Ireland for that matter. Before I heard about bioidentcail on a the Oprah show, I was desperate to find a cure for the menopause and I searched all the major books stores in London. Much to my surprised not one book about bioidentcail was on on any shelf and that fact alone, made me wonder if bioidentcal hormones has been censored here in the UK. All that was available was traditional herbal remedies and diet approaches. Had there been at least one book about bio's I'd have bought it, and have saved myself another year of sheer emotional and physical hell. I have all the most traditional books that treat the menopause with natural herbs and diet, was a waste of money for me, herbs or diet never worked for me. I was eating herbs like sweets and they had no effect whatsoever my menopausal symptoms.

One of the books that I bought was Katie Neil & Patrick Holford book Balancing Hormones Naturally, although their diet failed to work for me, they did devoted a very tiny paragraph to bioidentical hormones. They did not cover bios in a great details, merely mentioned rubbing on some bio progesterone from day 14-28th day of every month. Basically the same advice that is given by many private doctors over here in the UK, that do believe in bioidenticals and offer progesterone privately to their patients, but only for a small dot of cream to be rubbed on the arm from day 14 to 28th of every months.

The problem with that - you aren’t just losing progesterone, but also oestrogen, and you won’t be restoring your hormones to sufficient levels that would permit your body to cycle again. I had contacted a number of doctors in London after I heard about bio's and enquired if they offer hormonal cycling, the answer was always no.
One of the doctor's that I consulted for BHRT, said when I asked about the Wiley Protoco: "She didn't believe that women who had reached post menopause should have their periods restored." Although, she did offer a prescription for progesterone.  She took out a small syringe of progesterone and demonstrated how to use a small dot of progesterone by rubbing on to the underside of her arm.

I was more than surprised and in that moment, I knew I had to search for another BHRT doctor!

Bioidentical therapy works best when it is talored for each woman, as set by the levels of your recent blood tests, because a dot of any type of bioidentical cream, may suit you, but could send my body crazy looking for more!  I felt crazy enought at the time and I mean locking up crazy.

Hormones And Ageing - The Cancer Link

"Inventions rarely come from people within an industry, but, instead come from people on the outside who aren't under the same limiting beliefs and habitual thinking that forms within any organization or industry."  ~ Dr. James Asher

Dr Joseph Dubroff in his article Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) and Age Related Decline, talked about the use of bioidentical hormones as a way to avoid cancer and other related health problems. He suggested that, "All mid 30 women and men should have their estrogen, and progesterone ratio checked around their mid 30s. Breast cancer has been associated with older women not younger women. Considerable breast cancer rates start in women’s mid to late 30s. The incidence of this cancer increases as women grow older. As a woman gets into their 30s they start to enter what is called perimenopause. This stage of life is marked by a decline in progesterone and then later in years a decline in estrogens resulting in menopause. This leaves a high estrogen to progesterone ratio. This is one example of what is commonly called estrogen dominance which can lead to estrogen positive cancers such as breast, endometrial and others. Progesterone is the counterpart to estrogen and is protective of estrogenic effects."

"I am 45 and I have the mind and body I had when I was 25 and that is because I'm healthy inside. My estrogen levels are normal. My metabolic chemistry is normal. I don't suffer from hot flashes. I sleep at night. I don't have headaches. I have plenty of energy. My skin is smooth and supple. My hair is soft and full. My eyes are not dry. My stomach is flat. I don't have panic attacks or heart palpitations. I have a memory. I can multi task. I know you want all these things too. And you can have them. Just don't be afraid of your oestrogen. ~ Dr. Gretchen Jones

Dr Dubroff specializes in bioidentical hormones. He takes a three prong approach to holistic medicine. Scientific evidence based botanical/nutritional medicine, stimulating the individual’s natural resources to heal.

Declining Oestrogen and Menopause Solution

"Far too many people die by not helping themselves.  Afraid to seek alternative natural healing therapies, just because the medical profession told them that their condition was incurable. So they do NOTHING. Self healing is an act of self LOVE."   ~  Marie Hart
Oestrogen is a natural hormone that is produced by the body. Females begin producing what is call E2 oestrogen in the ovaries as their bodies mature from childhood to adulthood. As the ovaries produce oestrogen, a female begins her childbearing years. At puberty women produces eggs each month & if not fertilized, they will be flushed from the body along with the lining of the uterus that the body prepared for nurturing a baby. This is the menstrual cycle that occurs every 28 days (like clockwork for most women).
Once the menstrual cycles begin, they continue uninterrupted -- except for pregnancies -- until the woman's body begins to put an end to the childbearing years.
As the body ends its decades-long production of oestrogen, the ovaries will stop releasing the egg each month, and the body will stop preparing for a pregnancy that can't happen. The body isn't fond of change, and so it naturally rebels against this lack of oestrogen. Left untreated, the woman's body will adjust to the lack of oestrogen. As the body makes its adjustments, the symptoms of menopause abate naturally. The problem is with the symptoms caused with the process of menopause and not with menopause itself.
And these symptoms of menopause can be brutal. There are night sweats. Some women have such severe night sweats that they must get up and change their night clothes and even their bedsheets.
Another symptom of menopause is a hot flash or hot flush. This is an intense feeling of heat that suffuses the body….usually just the upper body. A hot flash is like no other feeling, and when a woman experiences her first one, she doesn't need anybody to tell her what just happened.
Oestrogen decline eventually hits a zero level, causes many symptoms of menopause, but with time, these symptoms do subside on their own but with health consequences.  For that reason, the process of the post menopause isn't plain sailing and a majority of women are left walking tight ropes with their minds and physical bodies behaving oddly, not realising they are now prone to major health conditions and diseases.

Dr Gretchen Jones spelled out the pitts falls of the menopause when she said in her blog, " It's true, if you have no hormones the path way will surely be either, "Cancer, Dementia, Auto Immune diseases ) like Lupus, Arthrities, DJD), Heart dieases, Osteoporsis (which means hip fractures, Knee Replacements).  Just to name a few. I see it everyday in my office ladies! So for all you men out there get your wives to see the changes in them. George did and Arlene has been on the Wiley protocol for only 1 month and even "I" can see the changes beginning in her. Mainstream medicine plays that factor down but Holistic MD doctors now advise women to seek alternative herbs or bioidentical hormones to ensure they maintain long-term mental clarity and optimal health.

Women are forced towards synthetic HRT simply because the side effects of oestrogen withdrawal is too much, but they don't realise,   "Synthetic drugs posed as hormones are not oestrogen. Low doses of oestrogen given in the same dose every day is not hormone replacement, it is symptom management as reported by Dr. Gretchen Jones

There's a huge drive forward for bioidentical hormones for conscious modern women who share cutting edge minds for anti ageing methods to maintain their fully functioning minds, control body weight as they progress into middle years, optimal health, hang on to multi-tasking ability and have productive lives beyond the menopause.
Many women who decide to 'Embrace the 'Change.' They are told to enjoy the journey, by the other women who have bought into the Natural Hype about the menopause being all natural as spun by the medical profession. Unfortunately these women will suffer the most. Totally locked into mainstream indoctrination, they will all follow similar patterns of health deterioration as their mothers and grandmothers.
The only difference from previous generations, is time and knowledge. Bioidentical hormones are available and has the potential to liberate women and men from the natural so called age makers.

Dr Gretchen Jones said, " The data compiled by scientific experts who disagree with the absurd notion that ageing humans should stand by and do nothing to reduce their risk of degenerative disease and claim that natural approaches are not effective in maintaining optimal health and can cause disease is amazing to me."
There are two reasons why mainstream aren't interested in helping women to hang on to normal mentally and bodily functioning pre perimenopasue, because that would mean supplying anti ageing therapy and keeping us healthy. That would go against the Standard Health Care given world wide because both the medical profession and pharmaceutical companies are in the business of controlling and managing health conditions and diseases once you become unwell.

Secondly, pharmaceutical companies aren't interested in natural medicine as a whole. In case of bioidentical hormones even more so a no-no, because they are 'natural plant based' which are tweaked in the lab and turn into creams, but no synthetic chemicals are added. The Pharmaceutical companies cannot patent natural substances and make oodles of profits. They prefer to add chemical twists to natural substances, brand and make huge financial gains.
I have to repeat these two main reasons often, for women reading my blog for the first time, to help them escape the heavy conditioning that mainstream medicine has instilled, by their persistence in using outdated anatomy & physiology as set since modern medicne began and moved away from natural medicine.
"Hormone replacement for women is a passion of mine. I believe all women should have the opportunity to restore lust and love, sleep, lose weight, muscle, bone health, reduce depression and anxiety and be able to restore your health and get that youthful physiologic response from your body back. " Dr.  Gretchen Jones
Inspiration: Dr Gretchen Jones is not just talking from medical experience, she also uses bioidentical hormones to keep her healthy.

Perimenopause Symptoms

Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it. ~ Helen Keller
The signs and signals that menopause is approaching can be from 2 to 8 years before menopause actually begins. For some women they can notice an emotional kick as they hit forty. Usually just a slight emotional hiccup that they just can't quite put a finger on what has changed within. Some report their forties was a time when they started to sleep less and couldn't resolve their insomnia. Emotional changes to how we feel and sleep patterns occur because hormone levels can begin to fluctuate many years before the onset of menopause. Confirming that menopause is actually complete is usually defined by a woman not having a menstrual cycle for a full year.
But before the menstrual cycle ceases, hormones fluctuate greatly. Sometimes a woman many skip an entire menstrual cycle and then have two very close together. The irregularity is caused by the irregularity of the oestrogen being produced.
Often when a woman has early symptoms of menopause, she will be convinced that she has become pregnant only to find out that she is not. She has simply skipped a period. This is often the first early sign that menopause is going to ensue within 2 to 8 years. Most of the time after one skipped period, the woman will have months of perfectly regular menstrual cycles, t the skipped period down to nerves or something similar, and not even realize that a warning buzzer has sounded.
Another symptom of menopause is hot flushes.  This is a terribly uncomfortable feeling of heat washing over your body almost like a wave of fire. Some women experience extreme coldness as the heat subsides.

Night sweats are also another very common physical symptom of menopause that accompanies a great deal of sweating. I've known some women to literally have to change bedding and even pillows due to night sweats. You could well experience once a year a hot flush or night sweat, which does not indicate that menopause has in fact begun. Often there's a few years of menopausal symptoms that appear and disappear. Only when these symptoms happen often do they become certain indicators that menopause is in full swing.
Mood swings are an indication of menopause, as well. However, mood swings are also associated with just regular menstrual cycles. So just being a little moody is not necessarily a sign that menopause has begun, but it can be if they are more persistent.
Dry skin, weight gain, and increased urinary tract infections are also early symptoms of menopause.
Always listen to your body, even the slightest symptom or pain has a reason to reveal. It's the only way to keep a check on your overall health.

Always be WILLING investigate and don't be hasty in just taking pain killers, you will just silence the messenger.

If the menopause seems to be edging closer to you, it will be time to start your own research on how best to help your mind and body deal with all teh body changes that comes with hormones declining.
A lot of people say they want to get out of pain, and I'm sure that's true, but they aren't willing to make healing a high priority. They aren't willing to look inside to see the source of their pain in order to deal with it.  ~ Lindsay Wagner

Natural Menopause?

Defining Natural Menopause & What It Means In Reality

"Healing," Papa would tell me, "is not a science, but the intuitive art of wooing nature." ~ W.H. Auden
The medical community generally defines menopause as the cessation of menstrual cycles. That definition, in my opinion, is about as accurate as one describing a hurricane as a rainstorm. There is a lot more to the process of menopause than simply the cessation of menstrual cycles.
Speaking with experience, the menopause certainly lives up to its reputation,  ' The Change Of Life!'  Spare me the roars, ' The menopause is natural,' ' Natural rites of passage for women,' ' Menopause is the second part of your life,'  The menopause is a time for self discovery,' 'The menopause brings freedom to enjoy great sex,' etc.

Where's the Natural Menopause when  it makes you very ill as your whole body starts to malfunction?
What life are they talking about? The life you try so hard to remember that doesn't exist any more.  With your memory failing big time, besides depression and a host of health complaints, if someone  shouted and pointed ' Over here to get a life,"  you'd run for cover and hide till they were gone!

Oh yes, the menopause is a time for self -discovery, any given moment suddenly tuning into new painful symptoms and sensations, hot flushes, headaches, insomnia, joint aches, unwanted weight gain, loss of confidence, and libido.  I could happily type on and never run out of symptoms, but I don't want to make you feel depressed.
Great sex, in deed. A sexual mood would have to hit you like a tidal wave and even at that, with no natural lubricants, the pain wouldn't let you even want to even try and no amount of k-jelly works like nature.
Menopause is puberty in reverse. Do you remember when you were a young teenager? You were emotional, to say the very least. You could be happy and carefree one minute, and in the depths of depression the next over a broken fingernail.
Your body was doing weird things and sending out signals that were new and confusing -- not to mention flooding your body with hormones that caused your face to break out, always at the worst possible moment. First, you needed a bra. Hair started to grow in places other than your head.
All in all, puberty wasn't just a whole heck of a lot of fun. Menopause isn't any fun, either, but it doesn't have to be the end of the world. You survived puberty. You've probably survived childbirth. You will survive menopause, and frankly, on the other side of the process, if you seek SELF-help measures. While it's said, that there's a lot of freedom given by the menopause, that you haven't even gotten around to considering yet. For many women, there's a lot of health misery they won't have had any notion of either.
Freedom, you ask? You main gain freedom having joined the menopause club but it comes with a price? Well, for one thing, you may well rejoice that those monthly cramps are a thing of the past once menopause is complete. You will be able to thumb your nose at the "feminine products" aisle at the grocery store. You aren't likely to ever have another zit. You won't have to worry any longer about birth control or the possibility of getting pregnant, but for many women there is endless health problems to deal with from emotional, mental ability, physically symptoms that cross over into effecting physical ability. No matter how you dress up the so called freedoms provided by the menopause losing your periods comes with a huge personal feminine price.
Yes, menopause is the cessation of the menstrual cycle. On the other side of the process of called menopause, you are going to find a lot of freedom that you never even dreamed of.  In reality many women have to dig deep to find natural solutions for health problems they never dreamed about, not alone say, learn to live with them.
Even the women who have said with pride, “I never even knew that I was in the menopause, I had not even one hot flush, nothing. I sailed through it.” As if the menopause crimes again womanhood ended with no symptoms of having entered menopause or post.
Yet, if you asked these woman do they sleep at night, most will say they can't sleep all night; they have weight issues they cannot resolve; suffer extreme memory lapses, mood swings more than usual, lack energy to carry out a normal day's work, so good for natural menopause?  Besides they are often no longer at the driving wheel of meaningful and exciting lives. I have noticed many have simply withdrawn from life and if you look closely you will see there is no sparkle of life left in their eyes. What these menopausal symptomless women, didn't realise at the time, was their health troubles could have been silently developing and ten years later show up as conditions and diseases.
As example here's a selection of friends: four of whom were ten years post menopause. Four had to deal with breast cancer, one with ovarian. Sadly, one didn't make it. Another suffering with heart disease and another diabetes. The ten years post ladies, had all gushed how well the menopause had treated them. Unlike the women that face health challenges from the very second their hormones start to slip away, their missing periods were replaced with real health conditions and diseases.

Untold told numbers of women believe the menopause is natural that the medical profession has instilled; but the truth lies in the fact, yes, the menopause is natural biological process, BUT only if we were dying between the ages of 40 and 45 as we did a 100-years ago.  Before the full onslaught of the menopause. We are not suppose to live without vital hormones and to be clear, your not just losing sexual hormones, all your hormones dwindle every year. But, there's no need to suffer from having a Natural Menopause, you can now choose to Avoid or Escape the Menopause, just by using the Wiley Protocol. Other BHRT methods will simply restore your hormones to a level you have no negative menopausal symptoms. The choice is yours as to how far you rejuvenate yourself.
Every day mainstream churn out conflicting advise about BHRT to deter women from taking control of their bodies and lives using natural herbs and healing therapies. They say BHRT can't restore women's health, zest of life once menopause takes over. Research and you will undercover inspiring news!

Yet, bioidentical hormones have been around for years and I mean years. Pioneer MD doctors have been keeping a close eye on side effects and any noted any difficulties with Bio's and guess what? So far, they haven''t been given too many unnatural reasons too stop prescribing them unlike synthetic HRT. Their patients worldwide -are glowing and filled with nothing but phrase for their natural Bio HRT therapy.

Taken into account, all the long term suffering that's associated with a ' Natural Menopause? '  The mainstream medical  profession won't make me suffer, they have enough women to look after as result of accepting the 'Change of life without rejection.  'I'll have a virtual monthly happy period with no eggs to worry about.   Bring on the BHRT.  I'll let you take my chocolate but you won't touch my Wiley protocol bioidentical hormonal restoration

How To Heal Menopause Nerves

Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.  ~ Hippocrates

Anxiety and Menopause

Menopause is a time when anxiety can take hold.  All you may know, is that you don't feel well and you may not be able to expain why or how you feel.

Always seek out other women that are managing their menopause. There are many women who's lives are uninterrupted by the menopause and living inspirationally purposely lead ambitions. Opposed to hanging round women who has let the menopause shut them up and put their lives on the back burner, never to turn up the heat again.
Anxiety associated with menopause usually is the predecessor of depression. We all become a bit anxious from time to time as our situations warrant, but that isn't the kind of anxiety that we are talking about here. We are talking about the overwhelming anxiety associated with menopause.

The first thing that us women often do is become anxious about our body. Beyond certain ages, we can't help but notice changes that are occurring on almost a daily basis.
It is frightening, but it is even more frightening when you don't understand what is happening to your body and why it is happening. The best solution to alleviate this anxiety is to have a frank and forthright conversation with your physician, and preferably with your gynaecologist. He or she can relieve much of your anxiety by providing real and true information.

You will no doubt have heard many of the "old wives' tales" about menopause. You don't need old wives' tales, not everyone experience the menopause in the same way, you need facts…the real facts and more important up to date FACTS, that include bioidentical hormonal therapy.

Listen carefully to the way that you "self-talk."  We all do it. We have these internal conversations about everything that has an effect on us. We self-talk about diet, exercise, relationships, etc. and we certainly are doing a lot of self-talk about menopause.

Menopause can spoil lives but only if we give our bodies the green light to do so, by not seeking natural solutions. This so called 'change of life' also has the potential to spoil our relationships too - often we can emotionally become live wires.

If you are to remain in-tune with your true nature, you must learn how to manage the menopause or you'll end up being managed and lose yourself in the long run.

A simple tool we all have is self guiding from within. We can calm our own fears and settle our own anxious feelings simply by changing the tone of our self-talk.  We can turn negative self chatter into positive suggestions, and in the process we can relieve our anxiety.

Take Silent Action

So what can you do besides taking herbal remedies or BHRT? Meditation and yoga are both very good for calming and bridging the gap between mind-body harmonising. A calm mind is not disturbed by the waves of thoughts.
Meditation cannot create miracles while you are caught in the backlash of menopausal symptoms. Ideally combine meditation with diet, keeping carbs, like bread, sweet cakes, crips, and soft drinks to minimum as they often trigger hot flushes; try and keep your weight in check by incorporating daily fitness. Add some herbs to alleviate symptoms at the root cause, then meditation will help take you to higher levels of healing.
Caution: If you start to slide into depression seek help before acute depression develops, especially if other symptoms crank up a few notches. You may have to consider bioidentical. hormones. Some women cannot tolerate the menopause and do eventually end up with too many long term health conditions than they can handle.
As you know life dips, sways, and often pushes you towards the stars, often without a moment notice and usually when you've hit the lowest point, the only thing that can happen is an upswing to the road of recovery.
So be kind to yourself, look for natural solutions. Medication is great as lifesavers, but long term they can shorten your life and make your health conditions or diseases a lot worse.
Remember love yourself and take care of your body and your mind will love you for it!

Never let yourself suffer in the name of, “ It's only the menopause and it's natural, isn't so nature for many women. What makes you ill and robs you of ability to live a productive life with memory intact. For many women the menopause is no more natural than diabetes, cancer or heart disease, etc.

Self love starts and ends with you. Take positive action and find natural solutions that helps resolve your health woes.

Natural Herbs That Treat Menopausal Symptoms

"Rock and menopause do not mix. It is not good, it sucks and every day I fight it to the death, or, at the very least, not let it take me over." ~ Stevie Nicks

Natural Menopause Treatment

Today it seems as though every time we turn on the television, we hear yet another report about a drug that was approved for widespread use and is now causing major health problems for many thousands of people. What are we suppose to do, suffer on with endless menopausal symptoms that the truth as yet to be told by mainstream will last till we die?
Yes, we need HRT medicines, but natural one's but we most assuredly do not need recalls and side effects and all the problems associated with so many modern-day medications.
In response to this growing list of recalled medications, many people are turning to herbal remedies for their ailments. Actually, herbal remedies are a very good choice. There are few if any side effects associated with the natural herbal medicines. Side effects are most often associated with the synthetic versions of the natural remedies.

There are very rarely any side effects associated with natural remedies. You almost always need a prescription from a doctor to get one of those synthetic versions of natural remedies.

For the relief of the symptoms of menopause, there are a great many different choices available in herbal medicines. There are herbs that provide natural oestrogen replacement without the added risk of breast cancer, like the synthetic oestrogen replacement therapies produce.
There are a variety of herbs that will reduce the frequency and the severity of such menopausal symptoms as night sweats and hot flushes. There are also a great many herbal supplements that help to calm the nerves and reduce the severity of the mood swings associated with menopause.

Herbs are used to treat menopause because they are believed to help regulate oestrogen levels, as well as to reduce the severity of common symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes.
There are two types of herbs that are used in the treatment and management of the menopause symptoms: estrogenic herbs (those containing oestrogen chemical structures) and non-estrogenic herbs (those that don’t contain oestrogen). Both are used to alleviate menopause symptoms and improve overall health.

The Benefits of Herbs

The following herbs are reported to have a variety of benefits for alleviating menopause symptoms:
  • Black cohosh: is an estrogenic herb that aids cramps, congestion and hot flushes
  • Wild yam: a medicinal herb containing anti-inflammatory properties that reduces the risk of menopausal arthritis
  • Chaste tree: this herb helps to balance hormones, and can help ward off depression
  • Dong quai: its purported healing properties include reducing oestrogen deficiency biloba: decreases fatigue and depression and improves memory
  • Sage: containing plant oestrogens, sage can help reduce night sweats and hot flashes
Although these helps will help they lose their effectiveness over long term use, due to the fact as you lose your hormones, you lose your hormone blood receptors also, that pick up your sexual hormones. You can eat as much soy beans, soy milk etc., but there'll be no be oestrogen converting going on because you won't have blood receptors being made. So use herbs as long as they are effective by reducing or resolving your hormonal symptoms. When those herbs fail, you will need to look for other natural herbs or other plant base solutions like bio identical hormones.

Menopause is said to be a natural part of the human experience for women, but modern M.D holistic doctors are now telling us a different story and I believe their version of what the menopause means healthwise for everyone. Forever, we've always been told that there wasn't any way around it, so we all had to go through it. The main objective is to find ways to restore natural hormones, not just getting get through menopause because for most of us that means long term health consequences to live with, and doing so without doing our bodies any additional harm as we try to treat the symptoms.

Women's Depression - The Cause Is Outside Our Minds

The Link Between Estrogen and Depression
By Sheila Sullivan on November 10, 2009

According to the Center for Disease Control databriefs in 2005 -2006, 1 in 20 people in this country in the age group of 12 and up were depressed.

Though there can be life circumstances such as losing a loved one,  a job or going through a divorce that can lead to depression, which often times depend on how one has learned through life experience to cope with these kinds of events, there is new research that links estrogen to depression.

Since women experience depression twice as often as men, this new research should be no surprise but what should surprise women is until ten years ago not a single study had been done to determine this most obvious link.

In the book The Estrogen – Depression Connection The Hidden Link Between Hormones & Women’s Depression, which should be a must read for women of all ages, Karen J. Miller, PhD and Steven A. Rogers, PhD discuss this issue in length.

There are 50 million women in menopause in this country and thanks to them many of the symptoms that are related to hormone imbalance that  lead up to menopause, known as perimenopause, have shed new light on the estimated 35 symptoms that occur during this final stage in the hormone lives of women.

So if you are experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks and mood swings just to name a few, you should insist on getting your hormone levels checked before you are shipped off to a psychiatrist office and put on antidepressant drugs that have wide ranges of side effects and some that could kill you.

The pharmaceutical companies spend billions of  dollars on advertisement telling you that serotonin may be a cause in depression. They have never been able to say it is a cause because they have no way to measure it.
A recent news report cnbc.com revealed that the pharmaceutical companies have been spending millions of dollars, which come from our tax dollars, on clinical trials where during the final stages of the studies placebo’s are working as well as their drugs.  The top pharmaceutical companies are joining forces to try and discover why this is happening.  I don’t think you have to be a rocket scientist to figure out the mind is one of our most powerful healing tools.

We often hear the expression chemical imbalance. Well ladies I think it’s time you all knew that hormone imbalances can be the root cause your depression.

During my extensive research on this topic in a never ending search for my life long hormone problems,  I found that estrogen levels effect serotonin levels which in turn effect dopamine and memory.  Therefore,  if you are put on an antidepressant medication and go off you will go through withdrawal symptoms and most likely will still be depressed. This happens because the medication is affecting serotonin levels  not estrogen levels which most likely is the underlying cause your depression.

There are many natural alternative treatments to antidepressant medications mentioned the above mentioned book.

Some of those recommend in the book are exercise, diet, acupuncture, bioidentical hormone replacement.
Dr. Erica Schwartz drerika is an outspoken advocate on the treatment of depression with bioidentical hormone replacement.

Be well. The tide is about to change.

Insomnia Complaints Common for Women in Midlife

By Sheila Sullivan. Posted July 11, 2010

I read an article today in the Harvard Women’s Health Watch that discussed the complaints of midlife women about insomnia.  They made a number of recommendations one of which is not to got to bed to early because we as we get older we require less sleep so if you go to bed at 9pm by 3am you will be awake because you have already had six hours of sleep and at this stage in life we usually sleep between 6 and 7 hours.  The article goes on to talk about all the psychological stress women might be feeling at this stage in life but it never mentions the most obvious cause of lack of sleep at this stage in a women’s lives which is  the change that take place in our hormone levels at this stage in life.

I had my ovaries removed two years ago for what was considered to be borderline ovarian cancer. What is borderline ovarian cancer? It’s not cancer but instead a way of duping me out of my ovaries due to being in menopause and the doctor covering her ass due to malpractice.

After the removal of my ovaries, I began to have sleep and incontinent problems. I went to see a doctor about the incontinent problem and he told me the reason this was happening was because of  lack of estrogen.  He recommended I try a drug to help with this but I had no interest in taking a drug.

I made an appointment with and OB/GYN who I had seen a few years ago and she did some test and wrote a prescription for bioidentical hormones . I had used estrogen patches for nine years prior to the surgery which gave me amazing relief from the perimenopausal systems I had been having and they told me I should not use hormone replacement.   I did not listen to what they had to say because I have done years of research on the relationship hormone imbalances have on women’s health.

It can take a little time to get the dose right when first going on bioidentical hormones. I did get relief from the incontinents which made me want to go want to go but I still was not sleeping the way  I use to.

I called my doctor and she added a little more estrogen to my prescription and now I can barely stay awake when I get into bed to watch a little TV.

I have some links on this blog to compounding pharmacies and other resources for getting a  better understanding of the amazing relieve you can get from having your hormone balanced. Hell even Oprah after being misdiagnosed with a bunch of stuff she did not have found incredible relief when she began using bioidentical hormones.

If you are suffering from lack of sleep in midlife, get your hormone levels checked.

Clinical Trial Recruiting Women Experiencing Postpartum Depression

Educate, Enlighten and Empower

Clinical Trial Recruiting Women Experiencing Postpartum Depression by Sheila Sullivan on  1/5/ 2011

Though there are still few studies going on to  better understand the most obvious role that hormone play in the onset of Postpartum Depression and Psychosis, here is a study that is going on that is using 17 beta estradiol patches in the treatment of Postpartum Depression. One of my biggest complains about these studies is the exclusion that are being used excluding women who have been on psychiatric drugs and women that have had prior experience with Postpartum Psychosis which I feel excludes women who should be included in these trials. One thing that is not very understood about clinical trails is the recruiting criteria they use is done to have the best outcome in the study which leads to many women who should be included in the trails which is a most unfortunate aspect of these studies.

The good news is that these studies are beginning here in the USA but it’s my feeling that the research that has been done in Europe should be considered here and since there are studies that have been done that clearly have indicated at 17 beta estradiol is a viable treatment for not only Postpartum Depression but also for Postpartum Psychosis.

Here is the link to the study. clinicaltrials.gov

There was a study done in 1979 where 40 women  who had  been depressed for two years who did not respond to psychiatric medications or therapy who were given 15 to 25 mg of premarin which is a synthetic estrogen. They had significant positive results against placebo but the surprising thing was that there was never a follow-up study done.   This study came from a book Entitled Estrogen Effects in Psychiatric Disorders written in 2005 by two psychiatrist who come from Germany and Switzerland. Niels Bergemann and Anita Riecher.
A study like this that clearly indicates that estrogen can  be used successfully in treatment of women who are suffering depression.  There are billions of dollars being made on antidepressant drugs which brings up the questions that are these companies withholding research that indicated that estrogen can be used as a treatment in women’s depression.

Premarin is a synthetic hormone that since this study was done has been linked to an increase in cancer and heart problems in women. BHRT aka as bioidentical hormone replacement which are planted based are considered to be much safer and are even being used in women who have breast cancer.
Since there are also doctors and compounding pharmacies in this country that are currently treating women with hormones  for Postpartum Depression, please take a look at my links to find one.

Post-partum depression effectively treated with 17 Beta Estradiol

Cohasset native raises awareness about post-partum depression

By Nancy White/nwhite@cnc.com

A Cohasset native has been invited to present her research at an international health conference in London in March.  But, this women’s health advocate is not a doctor or a medical professional.
Sheila Sullivan, currently of Hull, is simply a passionate woman looking to change the way the medical community and women themselves are diagnosed and treated.  Her focus, which was generated in part from her own personal experiences, is postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis.

For the past 10 years, Sullivan has spent hundreds of hours conducting independent research to uncover the cause of postpartum depression.  She’s read over 500 books written by medical professionals, visited hundreds of websites, had conversations with dozens of medical authors and experts and spoke to hundreds of women everywhere she goes.

As someone who has done the research and had personal experience she believes she has come to a profound understanding of the condition and its causes.
The First World Congress of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Andrology is scheduled for mid-March and has given her the opportunity to present her research in an oral presentation.  Sullivan, who has recently gone back to college to pursue an associate’s degree in Natural Sciences, is looking to raise money to get to London for the conference.

“It’s my greatest hope that this will begin a much needed change in the backward thinking regarding postpartum depression and psychosis,” Sullivan said.  “This is an extraordinary opportunity for me…I hope in going to the conference I find psychologists like thinking and support for my cause.”

In her research paper, she argues that there is a strong connection between hormonal imbalances and female brain.  Specifically, she looks at the inter-relation between hormonal imbalance, trauma and memory.  She also advocates for the use of base line hormone levels to be used as a first line diagnostic tool in the onset of postpartum depression and psychosis.

“Because of a lack of research (in this area) women are suffering unnecessarily,” Sullivan said.  “(I want) to bring a new understanding that lead to the proper treatment of women experiencing these conditions.”
For several years Sullivan has written a blog on her research and thoughts
(http://www.postpartumawareness.com/)

“I feel the most effective way to reach women in this country is to speak at women’s events and by speaking to young women in college and high school,” said Sullivan, adding she is concerned working class and poor women are not getting the information they need to make informed decisions about their health and treatment.
“The perception of these conditions (postpartum depression and psychosis) being mental illnesses needs to change, as this prevents many women from seeking out help they need because of fear of losing their babies,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan believes, and cites medical research, postpartum depression can be effectively treated with 17 Beta Estradiol, the main estrogen women produce from puberty to post menopause.  There are currently physicians and compounding pharmacies treating postpartum depression with these bioidentical hormones.  Her ultimate hope is more doctors and the medical community as a whole will begin to recognize the effectiveness of this treatment method.
“It’s an incredible honor to be invited.  It just goes to show if you believe in yourself and believe in what your body and mind are telling you then you can find truth in healing.  When I started this research 10 years ago I never thought I’d be here.  It’s been a journey,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan will continue to network with medical professionals and women’s health advocacy groups to see that changes are made.
“This can be a lonely road sometimes as I am the only women in the country that is advocating for the kind of changes and bring a new understanding to these conditions,” Sullivan said.

Could Hormone Restoration Slow the Ageing Process?

"Old age ain't no place for sissies."  Bette Davis

Are you feeling much older and suffering far more health problems than previous years?

The common culprit mainstream tells us is the ageing factor, but that may not be the whole truth. So don't blame your lack of happiness & health problems on the ageing process, because ageing, health conditions and diseases such as cancer are linked to insufficient hormones. Mainstream science aren't interested in pursing that angle because it would mean going down the anti ageing & health prevention health care route.

Ageing happens to all of us, its gradual and sometimes – it just sneaks up on us. Around the age of thirty, our energy naturally starts to waiver. Our general vitality and virility start to decline. In many ways we become vulnerable to increasing health problems.

We will all experience depression, failing memory, excessive tiredness even with sleep, weight gain, unexplained bone or nerve pain, insomnia, temperature fluctuations, and headaches, which are all ageing factors. These symptoms are all vital clues that your body and health is sliding into various degrees of deterioration.

For women, it can mean that the perimenopause has begun - a time when hormones start to decline, it could be the reminder that the menopause or post menopause has been reached and their hormonal tank is empty.

Remember during your youthful days, your hormones were raging, you felt energised and easily aroused to live it up and often danced the night away. Your body functioned at peak efficiency, you built muscle instead of fat, you had an abundance of energy and you bounced back from sickness and injury much faster, but as you age, it's a different story.

Your body loses its ability to produce and release certain hormones as other vital hormones diminish, all have a knock on effect on one another, but when you start to feel old, the mere thought of loud music or crowds is enough to send you running for your slippers or for your bed to sleep?  Understand that you just didn't feel empowered, energised and healthy because your body was young, it was because you had optimal levels of hormones as well.  Therefore, it stands to reason that recreating this same finely tuned balance of hormones that we possessed in our younger years is the key to controlling ageing.

It's long overdue, for the medical profession to realise, that losing your memory, overall health and zest for living around 45-to 50, is very young, compared to our new life span. More should be done in line of health prevention and help us stay healthier for much longer.

After all, how many senior citizens do you know, that only have one health condition and one disease to live with? Usually they suffer a wide range of different types of health conditions and diseases; have huge amounts of medications to take daily, which keep the drug companies and the medical profession in business, far more than the younger generations.

One fact is clear, we need to step up as individuals and do more to help ourselves maintain our own health. At least until mainstream science becomes more holistic and provide the hormone restoration that would change how we live our middle and senior years; and spare us from early entry into nursing homes.

Max Julius asked in his article, “Where Are We Going With Long-term Health Care For The Elderly?” 3/12/2010. Ticking, 'timebomb' - 'According to the Care Quality Commission, which regulates the care homes sector, the government expects that 1.7 million more adults will need care and support in 20 years’ time.   In the next 20 years, the number of people over 65 is projected to grow by almost half, the CQC said. The number of people aged over 85 in England will double, and the number over 100 will quadruple."

How Can We Slow The Ageing Process?

I was surprised to learn that hormonal health needed other hormones for a complete balance, to stop the human body from slipping into early deterioration. I term 'early deterioration,' due to the fact that a majority of us are all going to live 30-50 years longer, in spite of the menopause, the ageing processes, various illnesses and diseases.

Cutting edge holistic M.D. doctors tell us that declining hormones are the primarily causes why we age. These hormones include ACTH, aldosterone, calcitonin, cortisol, EPO, oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, growth hormones, pregnenolone, thyroid, T4, T3, insulin, DHEA, melatonin, endorphins and vasopressin, etc., and they all help keep us feeling younger, regulate breathing, brain functioning, metabolism, immunity, and digestive system running smoothly.

Thierry Hertoghe, in his book, The Hormones Solution- Stay Younger Longer, he reported that,  “Your body contains more than one hundred different types of hormones, and they pour into your blood stream at the rate of billions of units per day.”

Dr. Hertoghe also mentioned in his book that he has been taking thyroid supplements, cortisol, DHEA, testosterone, melatonin, growth hormone on a daily basis for years and how he depends on all these supplements to maintain his mood, energy, and physical fitness. He also follows the basic principles of a healthy diet and uses a handful of vitamin and mineral supplements to support the hormonal balance he's after.

"I personally experienced extreme health degeneration and followed by a swift rejuvenation, just by implementing a few suggestions from Dr. Hertoghe & T.S Wiley. Five years ago, I had been severely hit by numerous acute health problems as I moved into the later stages of the perimenopause.  By the time the menopause appeared, my body had totally disowned any emotional, mental or physical responsibility for sufficient functional; neither my mind, mental ability, or any bodily organ or system seemed willing to work with me.  In just a few years, I felt like I had aged 20 years in bodily terms, but in reality, I was just late forties and looked early thirties due to my healthy lifestyle.

I felt very ill and it was just a question of time, when I would have developed common health conditions and diseases that seem to hit women who are locked into the perimenopause, menopause and post menopause. I decided suffering forEVER, wasn't for me and sort a cure!  You could say that I am the proof, when I started to incorporate more vitamins, DHEA and bioidentical hormones, all my health complaints reversed.  I no longer feel old! In fact, I've rejuvenated upon all levels.  I have successfuly turned back the clock."     ~  Marie Hart

I'll be chatting, inspiring, raving, and educating you all about bioidentical hormones, also known as BHRT. For those of you who don't yet know anything about bioidenticals, they are a natural alternative to synthentic HRT. They are derived from plants and turned into medication preparations that contain hormones that are exact molecule - by - molecule chemical match to those made in the human body. They mimic the natural wavelike, rhythms of the hormone levels in the normal menstrual cycle.

The Wiley Protocol Bioidentical Restoration Therapy have kicked the menopause out of my body and restord my Super Woman Status.

I hope you'll be open minded enough to be inspired and educate yourself all about BHRT. They maybe plant based, but don't be fooled, they are not just plants to the women on BHRT, they are as valuable as gold or pearls, because of the feel good factor and hormonal restoration they deliver.
